St. Theresa School qualifies for Science Olympiad State Finals

The 7th annual Kauai Regional Science Olympiad was hosted by Kauai Community College on Monday January 19, 2015. St. Theresa School earned a 3rd place team finish for Division B, the 2nd place school overall which qualified them for states. St. Theresa School students medaled in 7 events with Cade Tanaka and Maida Koetje earning the team 2 medals each for their respective events.

St. Theresa School was also awarded the 2015 “Spirit Award” chosen from all 9 schools from both Divisions B & C who participated in the competition. “The most memorable moment to me was when we won the Spirit Award. It showed who we are, we are one, and we don’t give up. We are always there for each other to make each other happy and lift each other up” said Kiana Young, an eighth grader at St. Theresa School who placed 3rd in her event Crime Busters. Jacob Haviland-Olores, Barak Aviguetero, Weylon Ruiz, Layne Santiago, Ashton Mattos, Kylen Aana, Roycie Faye, and Koani-Alquiza-Kenney also earned medals for St. Theresa School. This was the first time that St. Theresa School competed in Science Olympiad.

The Hawaii State Finals will take place on Oahu March 14, 2015.
